STADA Figure of the Month: 44 Percent of Germans Want to Abolish Prescription Requirements

Bad Vilbel, July 31, 2019 – How sensible are prescription requirements for contraceptive or potency pills? “Not sensible at all”, say 44 percent of Germans who would like to get rid of prescription requirements. Its biggest adversaries in the federal republic are 18 to 34-year-olds: 58 percent of them would like to buy their medication without a slip issued by their doctor. Amongst people of the age of 50 and above, only 35 percent share this view.

Still, in a Europe-wide comparison, Germany belongs to the proponents of the prescription requirement. Only Italians feel less inclined to abolish prescription requirements (37 percent). In countries like Poland (61 percent) or Belgium (59 percent), far more than half of the respondents are convinced that prescription requirements are unnecessary.

These are the results of the STADA Health Report 2019, a representative study with 18.000 respondents from nine countries. On behalf of STADA Arzneimittel AG, the market research institute Kantar Health surveyed 2.000 people each from Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Russia, Serbia, Spain and the United Kingdom on the topic of “The Future of Your Health”.
